Posting to the Plebe Scroll- What is it?

To those of you who are deciding to quit dipping, the entire basis of our quit starts with the Quitting Dip Scrolls. It is the daily promise to quit dipping for all the members on this site. We each post our name, and the number of the days we have been quit. If today was your last day chewing tobacco, you should post Day 1. When we post to the scroll, we promise not to dip or use any form of nicotine for that day. Every morning we come back and do it again.

Quit Dipping Scroll Procedure at a Glance

1. Go to the Accountability Section in Forums, and click on the correct Plebe Quit Scroll with today's date.

2. To make your promise to quit dipping today and be added to the scroll, simply click the black "Reply to this topic" button.

3. Write your name, number of days quit, and any short message if you like, then press the  "Submit Reply" button.

4. You're done. Proceed to make an introduction for yourself, or continue to read around on the site.

Note- Although people new to quitting dip should be sure to get on the Plebe Quit Scroll so we quickly notice a new dude,  they are welcome to also post on the Quitting Dip Daily Scrolls (where the balance of the quitters who have been nicotine free for over 100 days post every morning), and they are welcome to interact anywhere else on the site,  as long as they have posted to the scroll. (If today is your day 1, congratulations on the best decision you ever made, TO QUIT DIPPING.)

Below is more detail and a walk thought on how to do it. You can either register, or post as a guest the first time.

Find the Plebe Quit Scrolls in the Accountability section.

[Find the one with the current date, and click on it.]

At the bottom of the page, find the box to post in. If you're a guest, you'll need to come up with a screen name. Either way, put your name and number of days quit on the scroll. If you just quit, today is day 1.

After you’re on the scroll, (or maybe if you’re not sure whether you're ready to quit or not and want advice), you can start an intro. Click that topic in the top of the Brotherhood section. Read the intros of some other members others first, or just click “Start New Topic" and tell the group about who you are, why you're here, ask any questions you've got about quitting dipping, etc.

  Uploading an Avatar Photo

People new to Quitting Dip should add an avatar as soon as possible. To add a photo, navigate to your profile screen. The easiest way is to just click on your blank avatar. Once there, find the grey box with the photo icon (location varies depending on Mobile or PC) and click it.

[If you need to know how to do this for Apple products, ask someone who uses them.]

Mobile ^

Desktop ^

You can select a photo from your computer by selecting "Upload Photo" and "Choose Single File" buttons.

Or select any image from the internet by selecting "Import from URL".

When you find an image you like on the internet, right click the image and select "View Image" to find a URL that ends in JPG.

If you're try to use a picture that doesn't end in JPG, it is unlikely to work, and that is also true for trying to embed pictures in posts.

Once you have the correct type of URL, copy the URL and paste it in the previously discussed box

Adjust the size and area of the photo on the next screen if needed, then click save.

For some guys new to Quitting Dip, or new to Forums in general, the amount of content and places to go can be a bit overwhelming.

To learn how to use some of the forum software, we can look at the Introduction page, although the following system is the same for any section on the site.

When you first start in any section, all of the different threads will be marked "un-read" which is indicated by bold blue font, and a blue circle next to the thread.

Sometimes you might want to start an introduction from the beginning, or you might just want to skip ahead to whatever is going on right now. To start from the beginning click on the title, to go to the most recent post, click on the time/date of the last post, over to the right. If you got halfway through a thread, and want to pick up right where you left off,  click through to the most recently read post by clicking on the little circle next to the title

After you've read through a thread to the last post, the thread will no longer be in bold font, and the blue circle will be gone.

[If there is new content in a thread you have previously read, it will be pushed to the top of the list and be bold again.]

After you have posted in a thread, the icons that were previously circles are now stars. [This can be particularly useful to quickly determine whether you have already posted scroll when clicking on the scrolls]

Below, the yellow circle shows an opaque star, indicating a post you have post in, read all the way through, and there is no new content.

The green circle indicates a thread you have read through, and never posted in (no star or circle).

The red circle is around a blue star, indicating a thread you have previously posted in, and there is new content. Like the circle, you can click on the star to take you to the most recent post you haven't read, or click the last post over to the right to take you right to the end. This system is the same for all threads on the site.

What Should I Be Reading?

The most important things to read when you first get here are the threads that are just about quitting dip. But those are few and far between, as most of the threads here combine a lot of fucking around with a lot of quitting, it's just hard to tell the difference sometimes. There are a lot of threads here on Quitting Dip. Some of them are easy to understand from the title. For example, in the Clubhouse -  Explosive Diarrhea is pretty self-explanatory. It’s where people like to discuss bowel movements and shitting their pants. [The sheer volume of posts in that thread will tell you all you need to know about the dieting habits of the people who have quit dipping.] However, some are more tricky, like  Rate These Posters, which started off as a drunken attempt to talk shit about people, morphed into a place to rate fast food restaurants, and is now a place where members show off food they made for dinner.

If you are looking for a few places to hit up as you started,  try these-

The introduction Section-  start your own, and check out some others. This is a more or less a place for new dudes to say hello,  old dudes to keep track of milestones, and send congrats to quitters at various way-points of quit. It's a good place to get help to quit dipping, and offer or receive quitting dip support.

The Plebe Pen is a good place to read some stuff oriented towards guys who have recently quit dipping, or post something about your own new quit.

Centurion Speeches has some collected wisdom related to quitting dipping from dudes who are doing it right.

On the flip side of that coin, The Graveyard has all of the intros from former members who couldn't hack it. Don't be like these losers, find the patterns of those who struggled with quitting dip and ultimately failed .

The Other Quits section has lots of different challenges and scrolls for members that are looking to improve themselves in other ways in addition to quitting dip, like not being a fat ass, or getting off soda.

The Games Section has a collections of Memes that offer hours of laughs, but someone needs to go through and fix some of the older links.

Once you have been here for a while and show that you are not going to bitch out, you'll get access to some other areas. Anything in the Clubhouse is going to be entertaining to a point, though as mentioned above, you never really know what you are going to be clicking on. A safe place to put anything on any topic is to throw it into that month's Catch-All, which will be pinned to the top of the Clubhouse.

Wherever you start reading, and whether it makes any sense to you as far as belonging on a website about Quitting Dip, there is a method to the madness. As you become used to it and threads are marked "read", you can more easily monitor where live conversations are taking place, or just keep going through old shit. One important thing to remember, as you are going through old posts, you can comment on them. Bring up the old stuff if it hits your tickle spot, because a lot of us that have been here a long time like looking through old posts related to quitting dipping or shitting, but only a fresh set of eyes is going to find the hidden gems.

Here is a conversation lifted from the Plebe Pen on this very topic.

Feeling like a dumbass and just learned that people still posted in these, I've been just reading shit from years ago and been afraid to comment on some shit from that long ago.

Yes sir - keep reading everything and post stuff all over the place.  Being engaged and accountable is how you keep strengthening your quit.

Comment on anything at all that resonates with you. Even if the last comment was 5 years ago. Nothing wrong with bringing back an old post!

Anything that hits home, please respond to.  It's good to shake the cobwebs off of some of those threads ... some solid gold in there.

I feel you on this.  I've been in the habit from Reddit to never comment on old stuff to avoid getting trashed.

It is good to know that it is different here and that it is about contribution and emotional connections.

No doubt it's different here, bros. Reddit is entertainment. QD is a record of quit--your own and the guys who came before (and after) you. Reading and/or quoting old posts here is a good thing.
