  1. Bazooka - 227, Congrats BRO, welcome to the Centurions.
  2. I’ve been meaning to write yet another quit speech since I hit 200 days. The first one I wrote on that other website fell flat and my aim here is to provide a better version. So, without further ado, here goes. Let me start first by saying that when I first began pondering stopping the use of Grizzly Wintergreen Long Cut I didn’t plan on making it this far. I thought I would give it a go and see how long I could do it but end up caving as I did the previous ten or so attempts. The wild cards I did not factor to my early thought processes, however, were powerful concepts called brotherhood and accountability. I knew what these two things were from my participation in Alcoholics and Overeaters Anonymous meetings but never had an inkling of a thought that they would end up helping me get a handle on my nicotine addiction. When I first joined a quit group in October 2013, I did so at work at approximately 5:00 pm but before I made it all the way home I stopped at a convenience store and caved after weathering the first three hell days. Nearly a year later, I came back to that quit site, resurrected my login, posted an updated intro, and posted roll for the very first time at day 40. Little did I know I had just embarked on a rather tumultuous journey that would take me to where I am at this point in time. During the first few months on that quit site I met many remarkable people from all walks of life from every part of the US and even Europe. I believe the best way to describe what I experienced is best summed up by an excerpt from Chapter 2 in the AA Big Book: “We are average Americans. All sections of this country and many of its occupations are represented, as well as many political, economic, social, and religious backgrounds. We are people who normally would not mix. But there exists among us a fellowship, a friendliness, and an understanding which is indescribably wonderful. We are like the passengers of a great liner the moment after rescue from shipwreck when camaraderie, joyousness and democracy pervade the vessel from steerage to Captain's table. Unlike the feelings of the ship's passengers, however, our joy in escape from disaster does not subside as we go our individual ways. The feeling of having shared in a common peril is one element in the powerful cement which binds us. But that in itself would never have held us together as we are now joined.” When I first began posting roll and getting engaged on the first extreme quit site I was amazed at how quick people got their asses handed to them when they caved or otherwise threw their quit away and took a big shit on their quit group. I really liked seeing justice dealt out by the truckload but began seeing that a softer more gentle approach was beginning to find favor over the extreme tactics that I originally came to respect and fear. I had a strange feeling of discomfort about the future of that quit site when I found out that the supreme hard-ass, Lipizzaner, the guy that welcomed cavers to Planet Motherfucker, got banned over some bullshit. After that happened, I was disillusioned for a bit on the whole quit site mumbo-jumbo until I caught wind that another truly extreme quit site was being formed by the present and former members of Mayhem. At that point I knew I had to make contact with the powers that be and get the info so I could log into QD ASAP. Extreme ways are absolutely required to quit nicotine since it is such a powerful adversary. No amount of hugs, ball coddling, pats on the ass, and reassurances that everything will be ok will cut it in a nicotine quit. It’s a hard thing to accomplish so brutal tactics are absolutely required and used on a daily basis on QD. If you show up every damn day to post roll and participate you’ll never experience the brutality but if you half-ass your quit…expect a heavy meteor shower of attention from all members of QD and if you are found to be lying or hiding a cave…get ready for hell. In closing, I must say that there are actually four things keeping me from caving…Brotherhood, Accountability, Fear, and Common Sense. I’m staying quit because the alternative ain't worth a shit!!
